Discipleship

46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Acts 2:46-27

Discipleship is at the heart of everything that we do at New City Church, but is expressed primarily through three distinct channels: Missional Communities, Discipleship Groups, and New City Cohorts

Missional Communities

An MC is a small group that seeks to live out the Great Commission together by demonstrating the gospel in tangible ways and proclaiming the gospel to one another and to those in the surrounding community. Missional Communities are made up of regular people who are devoted to Jesus, to one another, and their neighbors. These gatherings meet weekly, typically in one another's homes from September through May. They are designed to be an easy entry point for newcomers to connect with New City Church and build community.

Discipleship Groups

There is something truly exceptional about the in-depth, life-on-life kind of transformation that occurs within a committed discipleship group following the method modeled by Jesus.* At New City Church, we have gender-specific discipleship groups that typically meet every other week from September through May. These groups require a high level of commitment and a desire to be vulnerable and grow in Christ. Groups are typically formed over the Summer months and launch in the Fall.

New City Cohorts

If MCs and D-Groups are the spine of our ministry, New City Cohorts are the ribs - coming alongside providing secondary structure and protection for the body.

A Cohort is a small group that meets for a short season (typically two to ten weeks) with a focus on a specific theme or issue. They are sometimes open to anyone, are sometimes gender specific, and are sometimes issue specific. Most often they meet at the church, but sometimes they will meet in someone's home or another location. Different kinds of cohorts will be offered throughout the year.
