PRAYER
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Prayer is a critical part of what we do as a church family. The Apostle Paul exhorted us to be "praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication." We should be praying for everyone in the Church ("all the saints"). This helps us to "stand against the schemes of the Devil" and so we may be given words "to boldly proclaim the mystery of the gospel." (See Ephesians 6:10-20)
We would love the opportunity to pray for you. If you have a specific request, please complete an Online Connect Card to let us know. Please also join our elders for the Wednesday Morning Prayer Call - every Wednesday on Zoom at 7am.
Ways We Pray
Corporate Prayer
At every worship gathering, a church leader will guide the congregation in a moment of corporate prayer. This may include a spontaneous prayer, a prepared prayer, something from a historic confession or creed, a responsive reading, recitation of Scripture, or a time of corporate confession of sin.
PERSONAL PRAYER
It is our desire that the people of New City Church develop a robust, bold, and powerful prayer life. Those in discipleship groups receive a prayer journal and training and encouragement in how to faithfully develop a habit of prayer in response to reading God's Word.
Small Group Prayer
Whether we meet with a missional community group or a discipleship group, there will always be a significant portion of our time devoted to praying for one another. Not only do we obtain prayer covering for ourselves, but these groups are where we solicit the prayers of God's people for those to whom we are witnessing and for those we know who are in distress or need.
Fasting
Some of our church leaders and covenant partners make fasting a regular or occasional part of their prayer life. At times we will invite the church to join with us in a time of fasting.
LEADERSHIP PRAYER
Staff Prayer
The staff of New City Church devotes a significant portion of their meeting time to regular prayer for the needs of the Church and the members of our church family.
Officer Prayer
The elders and deacons of New City Church regularly pray for the needs of the Church and the members of our church family. Officers will also (when not prohibited by quarantine) visit and pray for sick people in the hospital or their homes.
Servant Leadership Team
We are blessed with an abundance of lay leaders who head up groups and ministry teams. These are people who faithfully pray regularly for those they serve.
